What is CrossFit Kids?

CrossFit Kids is a method for teaching CrossFit to children ages 5-12. Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity, CrossFit Kids emphasizes good movement throughout childhood and adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.

CrossFit Kids is meant to be BIG fun for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General fun. Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits, which means less childhood obesity and all-around better health for our children. Further, the needs of second graders and high-school varsity wrestlers differ by degree and not kind; the program is scalable for any age or experience level and accounts for the varied maturation status one can find in a class full of kids. CrossFit Kids is not simply a scaled down version of CrossFit, it is entirely and absolutely CrossFit geared toward kids and their specific developmental needs.

About our Kids Program

The CrossFit Notorious Kids program is a multifaceted, challenging, socially interactive strength and conditioning program for kids from ages 5 to 12. Our Kids program lays the foundation for all future movements that our young athletes will encounter, whether it be sport-specific or fitness related. Athletes learn body awareness, coordination, and the fundamentals of gymnastics and strength training including forward/backward rolls, headstands, squatting, push-ups, and sit-ups. A sense of personal accomplishment is encouraged, as well as positive group interaction.

As our children are becoming more and more sedentary and with childhood obesity rising at an alarming rate, there is a growing need to incorporate health and fitness into the lives of our kids. By laying a solid foundation of fitness ideals from an early age, we can reduce risk of disease, injury, and build a better future for our young ones.

Since CrossFit is a generalist program, our kids program follows a similar philosophy. We cover the broad skills and movements essential for life and athletics. Improvements in the gym translate directly to better performance on the soccer field as well as the playground.

We strive to make our kids program fun. Every session includes a warm-up, focus work on a basic athletic movement and or gymnastics skill, a short Workout of the Day, and games. As with the adult program, we find the universal scalability equally applicable to our younger population. Classes are structured to give the athlete’s progressive training in gymnastics and strength training as well as an increase in self-esteem and confidence.

Teen Strength & Conditioning Program

CrossFit Notorious’ coaches are experienced in acting as the strength and conditioning coaches for high-school aged athletic teams. Our staff has acted as the strength and conditioning coaches for the Chicago Rowing Foundation’s competitive junior rowers and the Lane Tech Highschool Wrestling team. We have also worked with high-school baseball players, lacrosse players, and swimmers. If you are a coach looking to get your team stronger and fitter and want to help your athletes avoid injury, then a CrossFit-based strength and conditioning program is for you. Team Coaching pricing varies depending on the number of sessions, number of athletes, and the coach. If you are interested in Team Coaching, please contact us.
